life in the rhythm of the cubicle

where some are paid handsomely

to put words and numbers on charts

for the few even more handsomely paid

                      to debate and despair

we yearn for the weekend,

when the schedule says we are free

and many find meaning in golf

saturday in an agricultural district

      farmhands drive tractors,

              hoe gardens,

                       tend livestock

don’t the cows and the weeds take time off?
